Yurts for life produce a wide range of sizes of yurts and geodomes. Our standard yurt is a Kyrgiz yurt but we make Mongolian yurts (really "gers") too. We are based in the UK but can also export as required. We also sell yurt kits, yurt accessories and yurt furnitiure. All our yurts are made to your specification and will be customised inexpensively to suit you. Our materials are locally-sourced ash and high grade canvas which will last for many years. a hardwood doorframe

a 12oz/15 0z rotproof, waterproof and fire retardent cotton canvas cover

a roof cap with a circular transparent acetate panel

a fitted groundsheet with curved edges to keep out the weather

hand crafted ash pegs, guy ropes and canvas carry bag

written instructions on erection, safe use and maintenance advice

We will produce your yurt to the highest specification to be a source of pleasure for many years to come. The first principles in making that decision are: Where do you want to use the yurt? For what purpose? How many people are going to be accommodated? And will you want to use it in the winter months?

Customising your yurt

Top quality materials

Our top quality ash and oak timber is sourced from trees which are less than half a mile from our workshop in sunny Devon (Riverford Organic Farm), or from an FSC accreditted source in Wiltshire. The timber is planked and then carefully selected for different parts of the yurt, the wheel, the roof ribs, the trellis. Components are all steamed and bent to achieve the desired shape, hand sanded and then treated with oils (several coats) for a beautiful and long-lasting effect. This obviously takes time, so it will normally take at least three weeks to make an average sized yurt, and longer for bigger yurts. At different times of year we get very busy so please contact us for a delivery date.

The yurt frame is protected with at least two coats of danish oil. We encourage you to recoat on an annual basis to maintain the finish and ensure longevity. We also offer an alternative finish which is even more proof against water. This is achieved using two coats of Osmo products to seal for life. These are environmentally friendly finishes which protects the wood, allows it to breathe and gives a beautiful finish. The final appearance can be a transparent and enhancing the wood grain or a coloured effect (choose any colour in their range). This costs a little extra, but gives additional peace of mind. Our yurt frames are built to endure and most components should last 25 years with regular oiling, sensible storage and handling.

Yurt pods for off grid living

Each of our yurts can be adapted to join to another allowing yurt pods to be created. For yurt dwellers this facility allows a bedroom or kitchen to be seperated from the main living area or to provide catering/bar facilities for bigger yurts.In the photograph below left, an 18 foot ger is linked to the 33 foot restaurant yurt behind (see News; Riverford yurt)

We can also supply a range of additional products, including geodesic domes (geodomes) dining and garden furniture, decks and bases to go with your structure plus a new range of customised hardwood furniture shaped to fit against the side of a yurt or other circular structure.

We will deliver and erect your yurt, if required but will charge our transport expenses. We will also supply you with tried erection instructions and show you how you can easily put a yurt up (and down) safely yourself.
